7 – Glow-in-the-Dark Stars on the Ceiling
Nothing lulled you to sleep (or fell randomly during the night) than those glow-in-the-dark star stickers. I think they were supposed to teach kids about stars and all that, but they served one purpose: something to count obsessively when you couldn’t fall asleep. I miss you weirdly green stars. They’re still available, so I shouldn’t fret too much.
6 – Wallpaper Border, Preferably Disney-Related
I couldn’t tell you how many households I entered that included wallpaper borders in each room. The bedrooms in particular embraced a certain Diseny flair with their wallpaper borders. Who even cares enough to get the ladder out to paste up strips of wallpaper? Man, the 90s. Am I right?
5 – Teen Magazine Posters Plastering the Walls
Between Teen Beat, Bop, and the rest of them, bedroom walls were no stranger to NKOTB or Jonathan Brandis posters. Guys weren’t safe either, with wrestling posters and Tiffani Amber Thiessen pictures finding their way up onto walls.
4 – Licensed Character Bedding
I’ve been through my fair share of licensed character bedding, much of which I still have– Care Bears Cousins, New Kids on the Block, glow-in-the-dark Casper the Ghost, and as you can see– Sonic the Hedgehog.
3 – “Small” TV and VCR
If you were lucky enough to have a TV in your room growing up, it was likely 12″ or smaller, but still about the size (and weight) of six cinderblocks. Luckier still if you had a VCR. And you were a damned lucky SOB if that VCR also had a DVD player built into it. I still have boxes upon boxes of VHS with random stuff taped onto them.
2 – Goosebumps/R.L. Stine Book Collection
Of course, we couldn’t sit around and watch TV all day long. We had to get some book learnin’ in there somehow. What’s on the bookshelf? Everything by R.L. Stine. Fear Street was my jam, but the other half of Pop Rewind was (no, is) Goosebumps-obsessed.
1 – Bean Bag or Inflatable Furniture
Hate being comfortable? Love having back problems? Bean bag chairs and inflatable furniture are here to help with that.
