Ghostbusters Back in the Mainstream

Posted by

It’s 2016.  I have a can of Ecto Cooler sitting next to me as I type this.  It’s not even a quarter-century old rusted can.  I have two more cases of the stuff on standby to get me through the rest of the year.  I ate a green slime filled Twinkie last week.  And there are billboards with Slimer on them for the first time since the Universal Studios Ghostbusters Spooktacular attraction closed.

The new movie has a lot of mixed opinions.  There are people who don’t think the movie needed an upgrade and, I presume, a fair amount of people legitimately excited for a new film in the series.  Count me as one of those.  The original movies aren’t going anywhere.  Even if the new movie turns out to be a dud, it’s been fun just spotting appearances of the Ghostbusters logo all over the place again.  Last time I went to a movie theater, I stared in awe at a giant Ghostbusters logo next to a cardboard display of the new TMNT movie.  Gotta say, that was pretty cool.  Plus, hopefully, I no longer need to eat Slimer gum from the 1980s because there is bound to be some more hitting the market again at some point.

After keeping up with Ghostbusters III rumors for twenty something years, this is the week we’ve been waiting for.  It’s time to see how the new movie plays out.  Will it “ruin” our childhoods (no) or will it at least turn out to be two hours of fun entertainment?

Worst case scenario, we got this awesome music video!

Say what you will about the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, it has been amazing to see hype around the long-neglected franchise.
