I haven’t really brought it up much on the site, yet, but my ongoing everyday obsession is roller coasters. I can’t get enough of them or traveling to new coaster parks. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Carowinds which is literally on the border of South Carolina and North Carolina. To put it in perspective, depending on which door you enter the park you enter one of the two states. Their racing-style wooden coaster Thunder Road crosses state lines twice during the ride.
As I was doing some last minute reading on the park before heading there, I came across a link on their website with mp3s of theme songs. They sound like they could be in an old Dick Van Dyke musical. I assumed they were just online as a nostalgic keepsake, but I thought wrong.
As we waited in a silent mob of people for the park to officially open, I asked a park employee for the time. He said we’d know when the park was about to open based on audio cues. I was expecting a bell or an announcement, but, what do you know? They open the park each day with both the national anthem and the Carowinds theme! Now, that’s incentive to get there early.
Since the song has been stuck in my head for a while, I thought I’d share it with you. Good luck not humming this one in the shower.
