Pop Rewind Year in Review: 2015

Posted by

We did it! We’re almost 16 years out of Y2K, and we’ve survived. It isn’t all bad in the apocalypse. Sure, our Beanie Babies have lost all value, but at least we didn’t get Kirk Cameron-ed up into the sky.

It’s weird thinking about what we’ve accomplished in the past year. When we reflect, it doesn’t seem like we’ve done anything. When we go back through our posts, however, it’s an entirely different tale.

  • We rounded out a year of (almost) monthly podcasts that included awesome episodes featuring an interview with Nick Arcade host Phil Moore and Linz getting drunk and watching Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory for the first time
  • Continued the Saturday Morning Recap, bringing you the best news and links you may have missed throughout the week
  • Grew on social media, mostly Instagram and Twitter but our Facebook has seen a lot of action this year
  • Attempted SnapChat before realizing we’re too old for that shit
  • Started Retro Rentals where we pick a movie, a videogame, and a snack for you to enjoy over the weekend
  • Featured several theme weeks (Halloween, TWO Back to the Future Weeks)
  • And this is our 500th post!

That’s right, we started off 2015 with our First Back to the Future Week and followed it up in October with our Second Back to the Future Week. With many more to come if Lee has any say in the matter.

We collaborated with Rediscover the 80s to bring you 10 80s-Themed Valentines We’d Like to Receive. (But don’t worry, you 90s romantics, we also have A Very Sonic Valentine’s Day).

In March, we were judges for the RetroDaze Third Annual Article Writing Contest. It was such an honor to be asked and judging was tough!

Our content was featured in articles from Smosh, Bustle, Aux.TV, and more.

What else did we get up to? We saw Weird Al in concert together, made Ecto-Cooler (+ cake vodka), got obsessed with the Jem and the Holograms comics, saw Back to the Future in Concert, got hella obsessed with Mario Maker, saw Terminator in theatres, brewed Rick Moranis beer, got obsessed with amiiboreally obsessed, and played a Wonka slot machine.

And now, here are some of our favorite posts of 2015.
