Saturday Morning Recap: Vol. 19

Posted by

Remember when Saturday mornings were worth getting up for? While we can’t provide a four-hour block of programming, here’s some retro news you may have missed (or simply want to revisit) from the past week.

Saturday Morning Cartoon:

It seemed appropriate to wrap-up PopRewind’s TMNT week with an episode of the show.  This is one Lee’s personal favorite’s, “Raphael Meets His Match”.

If you’re new around here, Linz likes to geek out about The Terminator. So she was pretty happy when Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the fifth Terminator film will hit theatres on July 1. Not so geek-out-worthy? The name: Terminator Genisys. But also the Eleventh Doctor is in the film, so no real complaints.

A scene from Lifetime’s upcoming Saved by the Bell movie drama is making the rounds.  It doesn’t really reveal anything you couldn’t have guessed about relationships within the cast, but it’s entertaining just the same!  The movie will play on Lifetime September 1st, so set your VCR+.

Who You Gonna Call?:

Paul Feig, the wonder that brought us Freaks and Geeks and other assorted wonderfulness, is rumored to be directing Ghostbusters 3, which is also rumored to be female Ghostbuster-centric.

In Bill Murray News…:

Continuing his long line of randomness, Bill Murray has been cast to voice Baloo in Disney’s The Jungle Book.

Film Festivals:

The only good part of Waxwork II. The first Waxwork is one of Linz’s favorites.

Bruce Campbell is getting his very own film festival and all is right in the world.

Those delicious Monster Cereals are coming back! Stock up for the year so you can eat stale Monster Cereal in February!

The World of Sports:

“Weird Al” fans petition for a “Weird Al” Yankovic Super Bowl Halftime Show, finally giving us something to watch when we’re inevitably dragged off to a football showdown thing in February.

Board Games of Video Games:

Zelda gets its own version of Monopoly, which will hopefully result in less fist fights between siblings during family game nights. Also, Zelda is the lady.

In Case You Missed It:

We celebrated the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles all week long, so if you’re not a fan, well, at least you got a cocktail recipe that tastes like Five Alive out of it.

Lee went through some mandatory TMNT music videos for Music Video Monday.

Theme weeks means Linz got into the kitchen, made cupcakes, and daydrank.

Mid-week, Lee took one for the team and ate some TMNT Pizza Hut pizza, which was actually pretty tasty!

tmntmemoriestitle_001Linz and Lee also reflected on some of their strangest TMNT memories.

And Lee wrapped up the week with a Turtles Pies experiment.
