Saturday Morning Recap: Vol. 22

Posted by

Remember when Saturday mornings were worth getting up for? While we can’t provide a four-hour block of programming, here’s some retro news you may have missed (or simply want to revisit) from the past week.

Saturday Morning Programming:

With the re-release of Ghostbusters in theaters, it seems only fitting that we feature an episode of The Real Ghostbusters cartoon this week!

If you’re lucky enough to be near a theatre that’s showing Ghostbusters for its 30th anniversary, GO SEE IT. While you wait for it to start, why not read some of our previous Ghostbusters-related articles like:

Damn, we really like Ghostbusters.

TV Shows We’ve Already Seen:

A Full House TV revival is in the works, which confirms our theory: everything gets rebooted. What’s next? We’re looking at you, Gordon Clapp. Time to revive Check It Out!

TV-inspired Coffee Shops:

Friends Central Perk pop-up coffee shop hits Manhattan. You can visit it at 199 Lafayette Street in downtown Manhattan from September 17 through October 18. You may or may not hear “Smelly Cat” while there. Who are we kidding… of course you’ll hear “Smelly Cat”!

Yankovic Watch:

Late Monday night, Linz’s mom called her frantically: “TURN ON CHANNEL FOUR ‘WEIRD AL’ IS ON BYE.” Neither Linz nor Lee can escape our nearly life-long love of the Yankovic.

Video Games:

Spoiler Alert! The full Smash Bros. roster has possibly been leaked.

Mario Kart 8 is getting even awesomer with downloadable content to add Link as a playable character. And also some Animal Crossing stuff, but we don’t really know much about Animal Crossing in general. We’re sure it’s really exciting news, though!

new3dsNintendo thinks we need yet another 3DS system, as they announced the New Nintendo 3DS this week (yes, that’s really the name of it).  Great, we’ll add this one to the wish list right behind that 2DS.  Oh, wait, what?  It’s not coming out in North America?  Darn.

Amusement Parks and Comics:

Six Flags announced that a new attraction, Justice League: Battle for Metropolis, is coming to two parks in the chain.  The interactive dark ride is a go for Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags St. Louis in 2015.

Everything We Know Is Wrong:

Hello Kitty is not a cat. MY WHOLE LIFE IS A LIE.

In Case You Missed It:

Linz started out the week recounting some Canadian dental practices with a cartoon molar.

We then showcased some retro surprises hiding in regular places in another installment of Retro in the Wild.

Richard Attenborough, possibly best known for his role as John Hammond in Jurassic Park, passed away at the age of 90 on August 24.
