Saturday Morning Recap: Vol. 26

Posted by

Remember when Saturday mornings were worth getting up for? While we can’t provide a four-hour block of programming, here’s some retro news you may have missed (or simply want to revisit) from the past week.

Saturday Morning Programming:

With Nintendo turning 125 years old this week, it seemed appropriate to check out the first episode of Captain N: The Game Master. Those of you who grew up in the late 80s will remember this as a cool show about a guy who got sucked into an NES. You were envious at the time. Watching it again today, you will realize it was a really long running commercial. And it will still bother you that Mega Man is green.

Nintendo celebrated its 125th birthday on September 23. Happy birthday, boy or girl!

It’s also Seasme Street’s 45th birthday! And you can celebrate at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts until January 31, 2015!

A test animation to represent the look of the upcoming Popeye movie made it’s way online.  Regarding his lack of pipe and tattoos, Sony responded to comments on YouTube, stating, “POPEYE is an origin story and will address all those questions.”  If not, it y’ams what it y’ams.

The cast of The Mighty Ducks reunited this week, sadly without Pacey or Emiiiiliooooooo, but we’ll take it.

Rogue gets put back into X-Men: Days of Future Past as a re-released “Rogue Cut” next summer.

In Case You Missed It:

To celebrate Nintendo’s 125th birthday, Lee and Linz recounted their NES origin stories.
