Saturday Morning Recap: Vol. 4

Posted by

Remember when Saturday mornings were worth getting up for? While we can’t provide a four-hour block of programming, here’s some retro news you may have missed (or simply want to revisit) from the past week.

Saturday’s Cartoon:

Not all Saturday Morning Cartoons were winners, but we still watched them. And that’s what we’re doing this week. Today’s cartoon is Hammerman and if you’re not into watching the full episode, do yourself a favor and watch the opening theme. It. Is. Beautiful.

In “The Most Random Movie News Ever”, Mrs. Doubtfire is getting a sequel, 20 years later. While we don’t think this is necessary, it does revive our love of shoving our faces into cake and yelling “HELLO!”

A minute-long clip of the opening battle from X-Men: Days of Future Past is up online. Not as cool as the Japanese opening to the X-Men cartoon, but we’ll take it.

And then there’s another X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer. Are you getting excited yet? HUH? ARE YOU?

Less Excite:

NKOTB’s Donnie Wahlberg is engaged to that crazy bitch from The View. While we may have lost your attention, at least come back to chuckle at the super timely Singled Out reference in the title of that Yahoo story.

Super Excite:

Midwest amusement park Kings Island opened their new roller coaster Banshee this week.  It’s the world’s longest inverted coaster and had six hour wait opening day that looped halfway around the park.

Excite Bike:

The classic NES video game Excitebike turns thirty this year!  Remember playing this game in your cousin’s basement?

In Case You Missed It:

Our brand-new feature Music Video Mondays took a look at ZZ Top’s song “Doubleback”. Fun Fact #1: Frank Beard is the only member of ZZ Top that doesn’t have a beard. Fun Fact #2: Whenever I hear ZZ Top, I spout off Fun Fact #1.

We then got a little obsessed with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pies, those delicious Hostess treats.
