Remember when Saturday mornings were worth getting up for? While we can’t provide a four-hour block of programming, here’s some retro news you may have missed (or simply want to revisit) from the past week.
With all the hype surrounding the new movie, the 30th anniversary of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles almost caught us off guard this month! That’s right, the first issue of the comic was first printed 30 years ago in May. If you are also 30, welcome to feeling old.
To kick the celebration off, here’s a classic episode of the TMNT cartoon we all remember.
It’s more than a dream now, Judge Reinhold! The fourth installment of Beverly Hills Cop is slated for Spring 2016
. And of course Judge Reinhold and Eddie Murphy are back for it. Any movie is immediately improved by Judge Reinhold and the “Axel F.” song.
And there’s also a Flintstones animated film currently being worked on
. Seems unnecessary, but if it means an extra appearance of the McRib, it may not be so bad. Here’s hoping for another unnecessarily dark storyline for a family friendly comedy!
Damn, this looks pretty promising already!
In “no new movie franchises are ever created, only old ones, but that’s okay because we’re an 80s and 90s retro site so we love this stuff” news: Lionsgate and Saban Brands are teaming up to develop the first of a series of new live action Power Ranger films
. Also, TIL Power Rangers have been on the air in some incarnation since 1993. WHAT.
In case you haven’t turned on a TV or looked at the Internet in a couple weeks, last Sunday The Simpsons aired a LEGO episode and it was pretty freaking amazing.
A new Batman series, Gotham, will air on Fox this fall. Here’s hoping it lives up to the last live-action Batman series, Birds of Prey! We, of course, never expect anything to top the Adam West series.
Cheers – “Uncle Sam Malone” from RALPH PHILLIPS on Vimeo.
A never-before-seen episode of Cheers (Uncle Sam Malone) was unearthed a year ago, but we just found it this week. A writer that worked on some Savings Bond Videos posted this to Vimeo.
Derp. The Nintendo eShop has some Mega Man deals going on for the month of May
with different Mega Man games for the Virtual Console on the Nintendo 3DS going on sale for $4.99 each throughout the month. If you loved the original games, but missed 9 and 10 a few years back, we highly recommend checking them out.
Remakes of Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire are coming to a 3DS near you! Smart Nintendo… of course Pokemasters are going to snag these games up. Gotta catch ’em all!
In Case You Missed It:
On Monday we looked at Tears for Fears as part of our Music Video Monday series. Too bad we couldn’t find that literal lyric version of the “Head Over Heels” video to share with you.
Later in the week, we pondered these 8 Advertising Questions That Still Have Us Scratching Our Heads. Seriously, though, where is the beef?
As always, Rediscover the 80s has some sweet links in their Weekly Links, so be sure to check it out!
