So, We Changed the Name of our Website

Posted by

Greetings nostalgia enthusiasts! You may notice a few changes around here, or you may not. Either way, we (Lee and Linz, site co-owners extraordinaire) figured we should explain what’s going on.

Long ago, this website you’re on now was called Soap in the Bathroom. It had many incarnations from blog posts to a weekly comic to video game reviews and since we’re always five fads behind, the site has focused on the ever-so-classic form of written humor with a nostalgic twist for the past year

We like things that don’t make sense, like naming our site Soap in the Bathroom. There’s no soap here, or bathrooms. Or even “in the”s. But that doesn’t stop countless bathroom contractors and soap companies from stalking us on social media. While building the site, creating content, and —possibly best of all—connecting with you on Twitter, we decided the site needed work. First order of business? Change the dang name to something more reflective of what we do and who we are.

What is it that we do? Write about pop culture. Of the past. A rewinding of pop culture, if you will. And we will. This brings us up to speed—we are now Pop Rewind and no longer Soap in the Bathroom. Content-wise, we still have the same great nostalgic taste. Now there’s just more of it.

Our regular and popular Quick Lists will always be a staple, followed by Junk Pile where we showcase random nostalgia we happen to come across while cleaning, and the ever infrequent Features section. On top of that, we’re adding blog posts and lots of ‘em! Blogs will be random and frequent and will have regular segments like “Obsession of the Day”, which you’ve already seen, and the upcoming “It Came from Canada.” Because hell, Canada. That’s pretty funny. Right?

The bottom line you’re wanting to know is “how does this effect me?”  Well, considering it’s much easier to type poprewind.com on a cell phone than soapinthebathroom.com, you just benefited greatly by enjoying our content on average of two seconds sooner.  That’s two seconds sooner that you will be enjoying such sections mentioned above.

We’re still two minds coming together to spew their sense of pop culture humor on the web. Now there’s just more of it and it’s all done under a name that makes sensePop Rewind.

Pop Rewind: nostalgia is our thing*.

* as in, like, you and us.  Coming together.  Building community.  Sharing interests.  Not just us.  We didn’t steal nostalgia from anyone.  Not that we would if we could…  So, anyway…

  • This is better than New Coke!

That’s kind of what we were thinking. Don’t worry, once we get negative feedback from everyone, we will add the word “classic” to our title in a year or so.

  • Why was it called Soap in the Bathroom?

It was an in-joke ages ago. The phrase sounded cool at the time, so we used it to buy a domain name. Don’t worry, it never did make any sense. Pop Rewind seems to make a little more sense with the current site… we hope think. Thanks for reading!

    • MisterZeroOops, looks our reply comment was eaten. Damned glitches! Here’s our explanation: It was an in-joke ages ago. The phrase sounded cool at the time, so we

  • Nice job, the rebrand seems to be working out well. Love the articles you’re putting out!

    • crookedninja We’re pretty thankful it worked out and are kicking ourselves for not changing the name earlier. Eh, what can you do! Thanks for your support!
